HTML Hexcolors :  Named Colors

A few colors can be referred to using names rather than hex values, but hex values are always preferable.

Below is a listing of the sixteen original Windows colors and their names.
Put your cursor over each color to see it's Hex code.

 #000000 Black #FFFF00 Yellow #FF0000 Red #800000 Maroon
 #808080 Gray #00FF00 Lime #008000 Green #808000 Olive
 #C0C0C0 Silver #00FFFF Aqua #0000FF Blue #000080 Navy
 #FFFFFF White #FF00FF Fuchsia #800080 Purple #008080 Teal

These are often mentioned as the best choice for colors to use when creating icons or buttons. The fewer colors used, the smaller the file. This can mean less system resources used for redrawing each icon used on a desktop, or to make them more compatible across platforms.

Example of code: background color coded in place using a name.
